Tiger Queen by Annie Sullivan
Publisher: BLINK
Release Date: September 10, 2019
Genre: YoungAdult, Fantasy, Retelling, Romance
Synopsis:
From Annie Sullivan, author of A Touch of Gold, comes Tiger Queen, a sweeping YA fantasy adventure that tells the story of a fierce desert princess battling to save her kingdom. Fans of Rebel of the Sands and Meagan Spooner will devour this retelling of Frank Stockton’s fa-mous short story, “The Lady, or the Tiger?”
In the mythical desert kingdom of Achra, an ancient law forces sixteen-year-old Princess Kateri to fight in the arena to prove her right to rule. For Kateri, winning also means fulfilling a promise to her late mother that she would protect her people, who are struggling through windstorms and drought. The situation is worsened by the gang of Desert Boys that frequently raids the city wells, forcing the king to ration what little water is left. The punishment for stealing water is a choice between two doors: behind one lies freedom, and behind the other is a tiger.
But when Kateri’s final opponent is announced, she knows she cannot win. In desperation, she turns to the desert and the one person she never thought she’d side with. What Kateri discovers twists her world—and her heart—upside down. Her future is now behind two doors—only she’s not sure which holds the key to keeping her kingdom and which releases the tiger.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Getting Published …
When
you’re trying to get published, one of the first things you do is try
to get a literary agent. Well,
it’s a lot harder than it seems. There’s tons of rejection and waiting
involved. And this is usually just followed by more rejection. Well, I
received my fair share of rejections—over 100 for my first novel, A
Touch of Gold.
What
most people don’t know is that A Touch of Gold wasn’t the novel that
got me a literary agent. A different
novel snagged me my agent. However, that novel (which I am still hoping
to publish someday) didn’t get a book deal when my agent sent it out on
submission. So, my agent asked what else I had that I was working on.
I told her that she had actually rejected the query I’d sent her for my book A Touch of Gold. But that
if she wanted to take a look, it was the most polished piece I had. My agent took a look, and liked what she saw.
We went through tons of rewrites to make A Touch of Gold what it is today, but that just goes to show you
that an agent can reject a story one day and then go and sell it another day!
So
much of publishing is timing and getting to someone at the right time.
So I hope this little vignette
gives another writer out there hope that they can get their novel
published even if it’s been rejected by agents across the board. Just
don’t give up!
