I tend to have unpopular opinions so I'm worried I won't like it!
DeleteGreat list! The Final Empire made my list this week, too. I've heard such mixed things about The Darkest Minds that I have no idea if I want to read it or not!
ReplyDeleteI'm worried that I won't like it so I'll probably just keep putting it off!
DeleteI'm with you on Given to the Sea and This Darkness Mine! They both sound so interesting to me, but I'm nervous because of how low those ratings are--though I do seem to like unpopular books sometimes? I didn't realize All the Birds in the Sky's rating was as low as it was, I remember seeing that one raved about everywhere a year or so ago! I'm also intimidated to read The Final Empire. I started it once years ago, but I don't remember if I ever finished it so I'd like to give it another shot, but I've just heard so many things about it by now that I'm a bit nervous to!
ReplyDeleteI loved Not a Drop to Drink but the low ratings definitely put me off Mindy's other books.
DeleteIt is definitely intimidating thinking about The Final Empire because of how beloved it is.
Yeah, there definitely is such a thing as too much hype for a book.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT.
Definitely!
DeleteI enjoyed The Glittering Court books. I thought Mead did a great job making the stories so distinct, while they were really all overlapping.
ReplyDeleteI actually thought it had a higher rating than it did! I definitely want to read it at some point.
DeleteWell, I loved a couple of books you mentioned that you're avoiding because of the hype, but I don't want to try to convince you to read them because that will just add to the hype! :-)

Haha thanks! I tend to have unpopular opinions so I'm always wary going into hyped up books.
DeleteI avoid a lot of books, but none of which are defined by hype or lack of hype (I always keep in mind that taste is subjective and if something hyped sounds good to me I'll pick it up, if it doesn't I just tune it out) BUT, ah, I didn't know The Darkest Minds was hyped up? It's one of my favourites of all time but I always kind of assumed it was underrated. (I live under a rock, apparently.) Also, The Glittering Court isn't bad per se but it's not as good as Richelle Mead's other books! So, I don't blame you at all for avoiding. It can be daunting!
ReplyDeleteI just remember The Darkest Minds being really big when it came out, but that was a while ago so I could be wrong :)
DeleteI didn't actually realise the rating for The Glittering Court was so low - I thought it was a lot higher until a few weeks ago.
